Dr. Anthony Fauci is perhaps the most recognized and influential figure in public health and policy in modern time. Dr. Fauci is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Science, the U.S. National Academy of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and many other professional societies. He has been awarded 58 honorary doctoral degrees from U.S. and global universities, and has authored, coauthored, and edited more than 1,400 scientific publications, including major textbooks about internal medicine, infectious diseases, and autoimmune diseases. Following his retirement from the NIAID, Dr. Fauci joined Georgetown University as a Distinguished University Professor in the School of Medicine. He also holds an appointment with the university’s McCourt School of Public Policy.
Tembi Locke is a writer, entrepreneur, and thought leader in creativity and resilience. Donald M. Berwick MD, MPP, FRCP, KBE, President Emeritus and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), is one of the leading scholars, teachers, and advocates in the world for the continual improvement of health care systems. He is a pediatrician, and a longstanding member of the faculty of Harvard Medical School. He founded and led the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, now the leading global nonprofit organization in its field. He was appointed by President Obama as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, where he served in 2010 and 2011. He has counseled governments, clinical leaders, and executives in dozens of nations. He is an elected Member of the National Academy of Medicine and the American Philosophical Society. He has received numerous awards, including the Heinz Award for Public Policy, the Award of Honor of the American Hospital Association, and the Gustav Leinhard Award from the Institute of Medicine. For his work with the British National Health Service, in 2005 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II appointed him Honourary Knight Commander of the British Empire, the highest honor awarded by the UK to a non-British subject.
Kedar Mate, MD, is the President and Chief Executive Officer at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and a member of the faculty at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Mate’s scholarly work has focused on health care quality, strategies for achieving large-scale change, and approaches to improving health equity and value. Previously Dr. Mate worked at Partners In Health, the World Health Organization, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and served as IHI’s Chief Innovation and Education Officer. Dr. Mate is widely published, serves on multiple health system and health care technology boards, and has received multiple honors including serving as a Soros Fellow, a Fulbright Specialist, and an Aspen Institute Health Innovators Fellow. Dr. Thomas Lee is an internist who practices at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, and the Chief Medical Officer to Press Ganey, Inc. Prior to joining Press Ganey in 2013, Dr. Lee was Network President for Partners Healthcare System, the integrated delivery system founded by Brigham and Women’s and Massachusetts General Hospitals. Dr. Lee has performed research leading to more than 300 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and five books, most recently Healthcare’s Path Forward (2023). He became a Professor at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health in 2004. He is Editor-in-Chief of NEJM Catalyst and a member of the Editorial Board of The New England Journal of Medicine, the Board of Directors of Geisinger Health System, the Board of Directors of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, the Board of Directors of Health Leads, and the Panel of Health Advisors of the Congressional Budget Office. He received is BA from Harvard College (1975) and his MD from Cornell University Medical College (1979), and then trained in internal medicine and then cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He received a MSc in Epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health in 1987.
Dannagal G. Young, Ph.D. is a Professor of Communication and Political Science at the University of Delaware and Director of the University's Center for Political Communication. She studies the content, audience, and effects of nontraditional political information and how people make sense of their political worlds. She has published over seventy academic articles and book chapters on the content, psychology, and effects of political information, satire, and misinformation. Her latest book, Wrong: How Media, Politics, and Identity Drive our Appetite for Misinformation explores the demand side of misinformation - that is, why we are attracted to falsehoods. It was published in Oct 2023 with JHU Press. Her first book Irony and Outrage: The Polarized Landscape of Rage, Fear, and Laugher in the U.S. examines satire and outrage as the logical extensions of the respective psychological profiles of liberals and conservatives (Oxford University Press, 2020) and is the winner of the 2021 Roderick Hart Book Award from the Political Communication division of the National Communication Association.
Michelle Browder, a Denver native, moved to rural Alabama at age 7, where she faced racial bullying. Her father challenged her to channel her energy into art, sparking her creativity. At 13, she started a hand-painted T-shirt business and later studied Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Atlanta. Ken Dychtwald Over the past 45+ years, Dr. Ken Dychtwald has emerged as North America’s foremost visionary and original thinker regarding the lifestyle, marketing, health care, economic and workforce implications of the age wave. Ken is a psychologist, gerontologist, and best-selling author of 19 books on aging-related issues. He was the executive producer and host of the highly rated/acclaimed PBS documentary, The Boomer Century: 1946–2046 which aired over 2,000 times on PBS stations nationwide as well as the public television special, Life’s Third Age. Since 1986, Ken has been the Founder and CEO of Age Wave, an acclaimed think tank and consultancy focused on the social and business implications and opportunities of global aging and rising longevity. In 2023, Ken has received the distinguished American Society on Aging Award for outstanding national leadership three times and, most recently, was awarded the President’s Award from ASA. Ken and his wife, Maddy, recently received the Esalen Prize for their outstanding contributions to advancing the human potential of aging men and women worldwide. In 2018 he was awarded the Inspire Award from the International Council on Active Aging for his exceptional and lasting contributions to the active-aging industry and for his efforts to make a difference in the lives of older adults globally.
Beth is the founder of Quality and Safety First, a governance advisory firm that supports health systems on their board quality and safety responsibilities. Beth was the project lead and lead author for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) White Paper: Framework for Effective Governance of Health System Quality. She was also an expert contributor to Leading a Culture of Safety: A Blueprint for Success and the Lucien Leape Institute’s White Paper entitled Shining a Light: Safer Healthcare Through Transparency. She also contributed on the governance guidelines for the HHS National Action Plan to Advance Patient Safety and on many other healthcare metric development and standards assessment efforts.
Patricia is President, Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety, and Vice President, Safety at IHI and is senior sponsor of the IHI’s Lucian Leape Institute and co-chair of the National Steering Committee for Patient Safety. She is a Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS), an IHI Fellow and serves on numerous national committees, taskforces, technical expert panels and boards. She is the recipient of the AACN Lifetime Member Award, the 2023 University of North Texas Health Science Center’s Mary E. Luibel Distinguished Service Award and was named to the 2023 Becker’s Review List of Patient Safety Experts to Know. Patricia received her BS in Nursing from Boston College and her MS in Nursing from Boston University.
Dr. Schreiber is the Deputy Director of the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality (CCSQ) at CMS, and the Director of the Quality Measurement and Value-Based Incentives Group (QMVIG). Dr. Schreiber is a general internal medicine physician with over 25 years of clinical healthcare experience, and executive quality leadership of large health systems. She has a long history of advancing healthcare quality on a local, state and national level. Since arriving at CMS in 2018, Dr. Schreiber has led numerous quality initiatives, including MIPS transformation to value pathways, the modernization of the Hospital Stars program, and advancing digital quality measurement systems. Her current focus areas include Promoting Interoperability across care settings, Quality Measurement, and Patient Safety. During her time at CMS she has been on the boards of ACCME (continuing medical education) and Leapfrog. Dr. Schreiber served on the Board at the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for The Health Information Technology Advisory Committee (HITAC) which sets forth standards for national information technology.
Dr. Yackel oversees the VHA Office of Patient Safety comprised of the National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS), Utilization Management, and Product Effectiveness. Dr. Yackel joined NCPS in December 2019 as Deputy Executive Director after retiring from an extensive military career reaching the rank of Colonel. He assumed his current duties in June 2021. Dr. Yackel, through his education, experience, and leadership, has had a tremendous impact on patient safety. He was instrumental in leading the Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) into a quality improvement journey establishing MEDCOM as a learning organization through several changes. One of the system-wide changes included engaging multidisciplinary teams in developing solution sets to improve health care outcomes. Dr. Yackel currently serves as a senior VA patient safety executive who provides national leadership for the formulation, establishment, operation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of effective management policies, programs, and practices for the Veterans Health Administration that maximize clinical patient safety delivered across the full continuum of care sites. Dr. Yackel received his Doctorate in Nursing from Duke University, his Master's in Nursing from the University of Michigan, Master's in Strategic Studies from the Army War College and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lake Superior University.
Jeffrey Boord, MD, MPH is the Chief Quality and Safety Officer for Parkview Health System in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and is a practicing adult endocrinologist. Dr. Boord is a graduate of the Veterans Affairs National Quality Scholars Fellowship Program and earned his master’s degree in public health from Vanderbilt University. In his current role, he oversees patient and workforce safety, quality and accreditation, infection prevention, and medical staff services. He served as Co-Chair of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Leadership Alliance’s Workforce Safety Workgroup from 2018-2022, and currently serves on the Indiana Hospital Association’s Council on Quality and Patient Safety.
Dr. Eggleston is the Associate Vice President of Community Health Innovation and Chief of Diabetes and Obesity Prevention at the West Virginia University School of Medicine, where she also directs the WVU Medicine East Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Health. Prior to taking her role in community health innovation, Dr. Eggleston was Dean of the Eastern Campus of WVU School of Medicine, and CEO of its affiliated practice plan. Dr. Eggleston received her master’s in public health and her medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has conducted health services research in diabetes in pregnancy, public health surveillance of diabetes, and the impact of health insurance design on diabetes disparities and outcomes.
Dr. McDonnell is Chief of the Diabetes Section in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hypertension at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School in Boston. She is the current Director of the Diabetes Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the Massachusetts General Brigham health system. She has designed Diabetes services within two health systems in Boston. Her clinical and research focus is on health outcomes and implementation of scalable diabetes care services for marginalized patient populations. She has co-developed multiple national and international clinical practice guidelines and chairs the Endocrine Society Clinical Guidelines Committee.
Josh Clark, RN, MHA, Vice President, Quality and Safety Operating Systems, Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI), partners with health care systems to deploy a series of technology-enabled workflows that seamlessly embed quality, safety, and experience within clinical operations across a variety of settings. Prior to joining IHI, he served as the Senior Vice President of Quality and Safety Operations for Jefferson Health, an 18-hospital system covering the greater Philadelphia region and southern New Jersey. At Jefferson Health, he led the implementation of an industry-leading operating system that included an innovative serious safety event review program, enterprise escalating huddles, an organizational learning and triage platform, and a state-of-the-art enterprise analytics platform. Mr. Clark previously served as Enterprise Senior Director of Quality and Safety at Carilion Clinic. At Carilion, he helped develop and lead one of the largest clinically-informed human factors teams in the country. He has participated in National Quality Forum Action Teams for both Opioid Safety and Medication Safety and serves on the Board of the Health Care Improvement Foundation. His work to integrate translational human factors within clinical operations was recognized by the National Quality Forum with its 2018 Next Generation Innovator Award. His work at Jefferson Health was recognized by ECRI and ISMP’s 2021 Safety Excellence Award. Mr. Clark received his RN and Master of Healthcare Administration degrees from Jefferson College of Health Sciences.
