Session Types
Learn about the types of sessions you can engage with when you attend the IHI Forum.
Couch Conversations
Couch Conversations offer attendees an opportunity to engage with subject matter experts and other attendees in informal dialogue. These shorter intimate sessions focus on timely topics and pressing issues relevant to each of the IHI Forum program tracks, fostering meaningful dialogue and insights, sparking curiosity, interest, and potentially inspiring participants to explore other IHI Forum general sessions.
Fireside Chats
These evening sessions provide attendees with a unique and informal space for moderated conversations, focusing on topics and issues that impact daily work, professional development, and/or the improvement field using an informal setting and facilitated by their peers. Presenters will share personal anecdotes and experiences and go in-depth on specific issues relevant to the audience.
Spotlight Sessions
Spotlight sessions are modeled after a keynote-in-the-round or a TED-style stage, bringing the prominent leaders in the field and the audience closer together, and allowing the ability to engage with a larger yet more personal audience.
World Café
The “world’s largest” World Café event features innovators and improvers from across the global improvement community. Over 30+ short presentations (~15 minutes) will be held simultaneously, allowing participants to choose their interested topic and engage in extremely intimate learning and discussion with the presenters and other participants at their table. Several rotations will occur giving attendees the access and choice to various content over the course of the World Café, sparking dynamic engagements, and new connections with both presenters and attendees alike.
Half-Day Workshops
3-Hour focus-topic “how to” learning sessions that allow participants to fully engage in discussions, activities, and Q&A with world-renowned experts. These highly interactive sessions will have attendees taking home new tools, implementing quality improvement practices, and gaining and sustaining success.
Abstract-Driven Sessions
Abstract-Driven sessions showcase three to four short improvement project presentations grouped together on the theme of a specific IHI Forum track. Following each presentation an IHI moderator will facilitate discussion and Q&A. These sessions feature some of the best improvement projects and give attendees the most bang for their buck.
General Sessions
General sessions make up the meat of the IHI Forum giving attendees a plethora of healthcare improvement topics, formats (both interactive and didactic), and access to leading experts from across the globe in a 60-minute timeframe.
Pecha Kucha
Pecha Kucha features several content expert individuals and teams sharing their work rapid-fire style. These unique presentations use images rather than reading text on slides and move at a fast pace of twenty slides at twenty seconds each to prevent information overload. Presenters will get straight to the point, sharing memorable stories and skills that will leave attendees focused and engaged.
Rise & Shine Sessions
Have breakfast and network with colleagues on a variety of improvement topics. These slightly shorter early morning sessions kick of each day’s content with a mix of interactivity and lecture to help increase motivation for the day ahead, whilst teaching vital information attendees can apply to their organizations and lives.
Innovation Theater
Innovation Theater presentations, offered in the IHI Forum Hall, provide an additional opportunity to learn from experts and visionaries on a wide variety of high-interest topics. Faculty will offer insights and innovative solutions that you are sure to find deeply compelling and of great value in your work.
Excursions
These pre-conference trips will take participants off-campus and into exclusive areas for a tour and presentation led by excursion staff and IHI faculty. Afterward, participants will explore the lessons learned and their applicability to health care during an afternoon “deep dive”.
